Boiler Repair and More from Blue Star Heating & Cooling
A boiler is a container, usually metal, that is used to heat water for various household or commercial purposes. It can heat water for faucets, be used to cook, heat a home, or sanitize by boiling potentially contaminated substances. They are usually made of steel or iron due to the strength of these metals and their ability to withstand extremely high temperatures without damage. Many older homes may have cast iron, which often must be replaced over time because of its propensity to crack and erode. They may use a variety of energy sources like wood, coal, oil, or natural gas to generate heat and steam.
Boiler Maintenance and Installations You Can Rely On
There are a few different types of boilers that you may see in a home. Haystack boilers heat water using an energy source from below (similar to a kettle). A firetube boiler is cylindrical and filled almost entirely with water, leaving some room for steam at the top. As the water is heated, the steam is pushed out of the cylinder like a chimney. These are common in steam trains. A water tube boiler, as the name suggests, consists of many water tubes contained within a larger drum. A flash boiler is a type of water tube boiler where the tubes are so close together that heat can be generated very quickly. No matter what type of boiler is already in your home, we can help maintain your system, fix it, or replace the system if needed.
